Thoughts on Blogging in the Classroom
I have never used a blog until college, and now use one in almost all of my classes! It is such a useful and easy way to provide my teachers with feedback and reflections on my experience in the class, as well as upload assignments and communicate with my classmates about their ideas. Coming from a perspective of a student learning to be a teacher, I see the value of using a blog in the classroom from both ends. I did practicum rotation at West Valley Middle School, which had just received Macbook laptops for all of their students. Luckily, I was there the week the students were given these computers, and got to learn about how they were planning to use them. The teachers were able to implement the use of blogs into their classrooms and planned to use them as a means of constant, no-pressure communication between everyone in the classroom. As I plan to teach young elementary special education, I do not think I will utilize blogs with my students, but I imagine that I can use them with the families of my students. I can use a blog to simply reflect on my teaching and my experience in my classroom, but can also share with the parents and families of my students about what is happening. To conclude, I believe using a blog in the classroom can be extremely beneficial and provide a convenient means of communication.
